(Fort McMurray, AB – December 17, 2020) – The Wood Buffalo 2022 Arctic Winter Games Merchandise Store is excited to launch the Rural Delivery Program – allowing rural hamlet residents to shop online and have their items dropped off through contactless delivery.
Our rural hamlets play a major role in hosting the Arctic Winter Games with events taking place in Anzac and Fort McKay and the Host Society wants to ensure all residents in the region have access to the full line-up of Games wear and accessories.
“The Wood Buffalo 2022 Arctic Winter Games is an event for our entire region celebrating sport and culture. It’s important to us that everyone has the opportunity to own a piece of the Games,” said Kim Rizzi, General Manager. “The Host Society strives to create meaningful partnerships with our Indigenous communities and rural hamlets, and we feel this initiative is a step forward for everyone involved.”
The Rural Delivery Program follows last month’s launch of our online store and click and collect service.
Once an order is placed through the Merchandise Store online shop at awg2022.org, purchased items will be packaged and delivered weekly to the customer by a community volunteer in Anzac, Fort McKay and Fort Chipewyan. Arrangements for Conklin residents are anticipated in 2021.
“Volunteers are crucial to the success of the Games. We are thankful for all our volunteers’ support in the Rural Delivery Program and helping their neighbours safely receive Games Merchandise,” said Rizzi.
The Rural Delivery Program and Click and Collect service will further enhance safety by minimizing customers’ time within the physical location and reducing travel to Fort McMurray.
The Arctic Winter Games is an international biennial celebration of circumpolar sports and culture taking place from March 6-12, 2022. The Games will highlight the region and its culture through the spirit of sport to an international audience and visitors from around the world. The week-long event will see athletes from our own backyard along with international circumpolar North regions during their time to shine.
