Fort McMurray, AB – January 25, 2022) – The Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games Host Society is hosting outdoor winter carnival pop-ups across the region to celebrate one year out of welcoming the Circumpolar North to Wood Buffalo.
The main winter carnival will take place at Vista Ridge All Seasons Park on February 5 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The pop-up will feature games, contingent trivia, prizes, hot chocolate, and more.
“The outdoor winter carnival is a great way to learn more about the history of the Games and the participating contingents in a fun and safe way the whole family can enjoy,” said Nicole Clow, General Manager of the Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games. “The countdown to the Games has begun, and we look forward to seeing everyone have their Time to Shine in 2023.”
Similar carnivals will be coordinated for residents within the RMWB rural hamlets at the discretion of the community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Host Society is partnering with local volunteers to support the roll-out of the pop-ups within those communities.
“The Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games would not be possible without the support of our community, stakeholders and partners, with that in mind the Host Society was inspired to create a COVID-19 safe activity for residents to recognize their continued commitment to the Games,” said Clow.
To keep our community safe, all participants must follow Alberta Health Services COVID-19 guidelines. Please note that public health measures can change quickly.
