(Fort McMurray, AB – September 8, 2022) Thursday, September 8, marks the official launch of volunteer registration for the Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games. The Host Society is now inviting the community and beyond to be a part of the action and officially register as a Games volunteer.
An estimated 2,000 people are needed to fill a variety of roles both before and during the Games, assisting in areas such as ticketing, signage, installation, merchandise sales, and sport and cultural event support.
“Volunteers are the heart of the Arctic Winter Games, and we are very fortunate to have highly skilled people who provide us with their knowledge and time,” said Jen Kennett, Host Society Board of Director for Volunteer & Community. “Through the Games and the Volunteer Program powered by ATCO, we hope to contribute to a lasting legacy of volunteerism in the region and create memories for years to come.”
The Host Society is thrilled to have ATCO onboard as the official sponsor of the Volunteer Program and recognize them as a continued Legacy Sponsor of the Arctic Winter Games, a distinction given to companies that have sponsored more than five Games and donated more than $350,000 over that time.
“The North has always been a special place for our group of companies, and we are proud to celebrate the vibrancy and passion that volunteers bring to the Games and to our communities,” said Nancy Southern, Chair & Chief Executive Officer, ATCO. “We want to encourage our fellow Albertans to lend their time and support, and to get involved in this extraordinary global celebration of circumpolar sports and culture!”
The Host Society would also like to thank FuseSocial, the Games’ Volunteer Committee and sponsor of the Games, GEMS.pro, for assisting in the recruitment, registration, and orientation of all volunteers.
Each volunteer who works two shifts, approximately eight hours, will receive a uniform package, volunteer orientation and role-specific training. All roles will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check.
